Doctorate Programs

 

Doctor of Philosophy Degrees (PhD are   the   graduate programmes  which aim of producing the  Professional  Church Leaders and Ministers  with the advanced knowledge in  different areas of specialization in religious Education. PhD is the highest rank  or level of education  which is  specialization  Education  where by the learner use most time in research and individually studies. 

This program is aiming to produce the church Leaders and Ministers with the highest level of education in various religious fields who will work in their  Church, or Para church organizations. Also the graduates of this programm are expected to work as academician or Researchers

 

There are two types of  Doctorate Degree  programmes  which are Doctorate  by course work and Doctorate by  Dissertation.  A student is required to make the option when wish to pursue a Doctoral  degree programme

Doctorate Degree by Dissertation

Doctorate by Dissertation is  as an academic programme where by a learners write only Dissertation  and take very few  core courses relating to research issues in order to enable students or learners acquiring knowledge and skills about writing Dissertation . Sometimes learners do take only research methodology courses along with Dissertation. Students studies the research methodology or Research Methods prior writing a Dissertation.

All  Doctorate degree offered in this university will be both Doctorate  by Dissertation  and Doctorate  by course work.  Student will opt and take one depending the qualification of entry requirement. All programmes cost the same expense.

Entry requirement of studying Doctorate Degree by Dissertation

i.        Master  Degree holder with at least 4.8  GPA 

ii.      Working in field with not less than 2 years

 Size of  Dissertation for Doctorate Degree by Dissertation  

Student who wish to pursue Doctorate Degree by Dissertation will take the only three core courses including Research methodology and will write a thesis  having the size of  850 -1000 pages

 

DOCTORATE  DEGREE BY COURSE WORK

Masters  by course work  is a progrmme of study where by learners undertake all prescribed courses in  particular programme and  write a dissertation  as a partial fulfillment of  Doctoral Degree  requirement. Doctorate Degree by course work have a dissertation as a partial requirement for doctoral degree award.

Doctorate Degrees   or PhDs are the programme of 3 years of Study whereby in the two years students undertake the course Work and in  third  students  do write a Dissertations.  This program is offered in different specialization areas. All students do take the same course work but they differ in Specializations areas.  The Specialization area is called Concentration Area or Research Area. For examples student  pursuing Doctor of Philosophy in Church History will do a research in Church  History while a Student taking Doctor of Philosophy in  World Mission   (PhD-WM) will do a research in World Mission etc.

PhD programme consists of   20 courses and one Dissertation which together   comprises 80 credits/units. Course works consists 60 credits/units while Dissertation consists of   30 credits/units.  Student is required to take the all core courses and choose some courses from elective courses to make a total of 20 courses.

In order to earn a PhD Degree a student must fulfill all requirement of a respective programme of study.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

        i.            A born again  matured Christian

      ii.            With 30 years  and above

    iii.            Master Degree holder in religious field with at least 3.0 GPA 

    iv.            A member of a local Church

      v.            Able to pay all required cost

              vii.            Doctor of Philosophy in   Practical Theology  (PhD-PT)

            viii.            Doctor of Philosophy in World Mission   (PhD-WM)

                ix.            Doctor of Philosophy in  Church Planting  (PhD-CP)
